Balagov announces screening of "Tesnota" in Nalchik

The film "Tesnota" (Tightness) was purchased for screening in Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, despite the prohibition imposed by the director Kantemir Balagov. The screening will start on August 3.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Balagov had forbidden the screening of his film in Nalchik, motivating it with the reaction of city authorities. The townspeople had treated his decision as strange.

"Absolutely unexpected news for me: the movie theatre 'Deya' has bought the film 'Tesnota' for screening, which means that since August 3 it can be watched in Nalchik," Mr Balagov wrote in his Facebook.

The film "Tesnota" by Kantemir Balagov, who is a pupil of Alexander Sokurov, won the main prize of the "Special Viewpoint", the second by importance contest programme of the Cannes Film Festival. At the "Kinotavr" Film Festival in Sochi, "Tesnota" was awarded "The Best Debut" prize, and also received the award of the Guild of Film Scientists and Film Critics of Russia. Besides, the film received the Grand Prix of the 11th "Zerkalo" (Mirror) Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival.
