Rights defenders see signs of delay in investigation into grenade explosion in Malgobek

The police have not yet made a decision to institute a criminal case on the fact of an explosion of a grenade in the yard of the house belonging to parents of Magomed Bekbuzarov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 2, unidentified persons threw a grenade on the territory of private house with yard, belonging to the parents of Magomed Bekbuzarov, who was killed in a shootout with law enforcers in the Ingush city of Malgobek in May.

At night of May 12, a DPS in Malgobek was attacked. One policeman was wounded, and two attackers were killed. One of the killed attackers was identified as Magomed Bekbuzarov, who was wanted for an attack on a police patrol car.

No criminal case has been instituted on the fact of a grenade explosion, the press service of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) informed.

In the current situation, there are signs of an artificial delay in the investigation into the incident, believes Akhmet Yarlykapov, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Ethnopolitical Studies of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).

"When it comes to relatives of militants or participants in conflicts with law enforcers, a procedure of institution of a criminal case will be delayed. This is nothing more than a usual practice. In neighbouring Chechnya, criminal proceedings would be instituted without any doubts," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Akhmet Yarlykapov.

The expert did not rule out that even if a criminal case were instituted, the investigation would be carried out "inactively." "It is likely that the case will fade away," suggested Akhmet Yarlykapov.
