Defence of Sochi women sentenced for treason challenge their verdicts

The defence of Sochi women Annik Kesyan, Inga Tutisani, and Marina Djandjgava, sentenced on the charges of treason after sending SMS messages to Georgia, has filed complaints to the Russian Supreme Court (SC) with the demand to acquit the women. This was reported by their advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 19, the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" recognized as political prisoners Sochi residents Marina Djandjgava, Inga Tutisani, and Annik (Aniko) Kesyan, sentenced on the charges of treason. According to the human rights defenders, the verdict pronounced against the Sochi women should be cancelled.

Cassation appeals in the cases against Annik Kesyan and Inga Tutisani and a supervisory appeal in the case of Marina Djandjgava were filed to the Supreme Court of Russia. This was reported by Ivan Pavlov, a women's advocate, the leader of the "Team 29".

According to him, the defence requests the Russian SC to revoke the verdicts and acquit the sentenced women, since the information about movement of military vehicles reported by the women in their SMS messages cannot be classified as state secrets, the "Interfax" reports today.
