Relatives of perished girl demand to punish Abkhazian MP

Today, about 80 participants of the rally in Sukhumi have demanded to bring to justice the former security official of the Abkhazian president, suspected of raping a 13-year-old girl. The brother of the suspect, an Abkhazian MP should also be brought to justice, after whose incitement a sister of the raped girl was killed, the girls' relatives have stated.

According to the Abkhazian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), on June 12, 2017, a 13-year-old girl was raped in the village of Nizhniyaya Eshera. A suspect of committing the rape, a former security officer of the Abkhazian president, has surrendered to the State Security Service (SSS) of the republic. In the evening on June 17, the body of the elder sister of the raped girl was found in the village of Baslata with a gunshot wound. Her father was suspected of committing the murder. Relatives of the murdered girl claim that the sister of the raped girl was killed by her father after the instigation of one of local MPs.

The rally of girls' relatives took place today in Freedom Square in Sukhumi with the participation of about 80 people, who demanded to bring the above former security of the Abkhazian president and his brother, a local MP, to justice, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

As stated by the participants of the rally, the above MP "provoked the younger girl's father to kill her elder sister."

"Now, all the people know that he is guilty; however, those in power state they will prove his innocence. It is necessary to make sure that the criminals are punished," said one of the girls' the relatives.
