Residents of Novogrozny report detention of suspected author of video on house demolition

On June 18, law enforcers detained a resident of Novogrozny, who allegedly disseminated on the Internet and WhatsApp a video record of the street with demolished houses. This has been told today to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Isa, a resident of village.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to local residents, on June 13 and 14, in the village of Novogrozny (Oiskhar) in the Gudermes District, law enforcers detained more than 10 people. The law enforcers' raids were provoked by the search for the author of the video about the demolition of houses during the reconstruction of the village.

"Prior to their raids, they detained young guys at our place. They were looking for the author of the video. And now, they have found him," said the villager.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by a resident of the village who preferred to remain anonymous that the law enforcers released the other detainees, except for one young man. "They believe it was him who had posted on the Internet the video of the demolition of private houses in the village. It is still not clear what will happen next. Relatives of the detained young man are yet not aware of his whereabouts," said the local resident.

In the evening of June 17, the "Grozny" TV Channel presented in the news programme a story from the village of Novogrozny. In the news programme, reports about detentions were called rumours, and the media that published the information were mentioned as "not trustworthy sources," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.
