Six valuable swords and three daggers stolen from museum in Kubachi

On June 10, in the Dagestani village of Kubachi, a major theft occurred in the local museum. 94 exhibits, including the sword of Nadir Shah, were stolen. Local residents do not exclude the relation between the crime and a similar robbery of the museum committed in 1993.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by Gadjiibragim Nikaev, the director of the museum in Kubachi, that the museum is equipped with an alarm system and video cameras, but robbers have de-energized the administrative building before the robbery.

The director has noted that earlier, the museum had confirmed the authenticity of the sword of Nadir Shah, the most valuable exhibit of the museum, but its value had not been assessed. "The sword of Nadir Shah was not assessed, since it was considered to be an invaluable exhibit," said the director of the museum.

Products manufactured by craftsmen from Kubachi are stored in the largest museums of Russia and foreign countries, including the Hermitage, the Louvre Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum.

According to Abdusalam Kurtaev, an administrator of the village of Kubachi, investigators summon for interrogations residents of the village with early criminal records. "The main version is that this is a robbery committed by an order and that the stolen exhibits have been transported outside the republic," noted Abdusalam Kurtaev.

He has also added that law enforcers intend to interview those people who were involved in a similar crime in Kubachi in 1993, when a security guard was killed and exhibits of the museum were stolen.
