Resident of Chechnya suspected of recruiting militants to Syria

Akhmed Doguev, a resident of the Gudermes District of Chechnya, is suspected of persuading his acquaintances to go to Syria to take part in the warfare for Islamists. The Prosecutor's Office has sent the case against him for an additional investigation.

According to investigators, in October 2016, Doguev seduced his acquaintances to go to Syria. A criminal case against him was initiated under the article of "Inducement, recruitment or other involvement of a person in participation in the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation not provided for by the law of that state, with the aim contrary to interests of the Russian Federation".

"The maximum punishment under this article is 10 years of imprisonment," the spokesman of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
