Eyewitnesses report raids on Salafi mosques and halal cafes in Makhachkala

At night of June 5, in Makhachkala, about 90 people were taken to police stations during mass detentions of Muslims. This was reported by members of the Muslim community of the region.

On June 3, according to eyewitnesses, the detentions took place in Salafi mosques and in halal catering points.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by believers of the mosque in the village of Semender that in the evening, policemen checked passports of the mosque-goers.

"The passport control was carried out during the Taraweeh namaz (a collective prayer held throughout the month of Ramadan, note of the 'Caucasian Knot'). They forced to their buses almost everyone whose passports they checked," said a believer, who introduced himself as Murad.

According to the publication, believers were also detained in a mosque in Separatorny village, in a mosque in Omarova (Hungarian Fighters) Street. Besides, visitors to halal cafes "Mangal" and "Halal" were also taken to police stations.

An eyewitness of the detentions has noted the polite behaviour of policemen.
