Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Mukhtarly disappears in Georgia

Since May 29, the whereabouts of Afghan Mukhtarly, an Azerbaijani investigative journalist, who has been living in Tbilisi since 2014, is unknown. He is well known for criticizing the authorities of Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2014, Afghan Mukhtarly left Azerbaijan for Georgia. He argued that the human rights situation in Azerbaijan became critical, and he feared of persecution.

Leyla Mustafaeva, the wife of the journalist, appealed to the police. According to her, in the evening of May 29, "he left home and never returned," the "JAM-News" reports.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), they are searching for Afghan Mukhtarly.

Let us remind you that on May 8, the Georgian authorities obliged Dashgyn Agalarov, a member of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan, to leave the country. In March 2014, he was detained while entering Georgia from Turkey.
