Svetlana Anokhina awarded 2016 Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev journalism award

The "Caucasian Knot" has named the winners of the annual award for journalistic materials about the Caucasus, organized in memory of Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev.

Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev, a journalist of the "Caucasian Knot", was shot in Dagestan on July 9, 2013. He lived in one of the "hot" regions of Northern Caucasus, and he covered urgent issues, including human rights violations in Dagestan, crimes committed by law enforcers, and persecution of believers.

On October 1, 2014, the annual Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev Prize for journalistic materials about the Caucasus was established by the "Caucasian Knot" in cooperation with the Russian Union of Journalists.

Journalist Svetlana Anokhina has been recognized the winner of the Akhmednabi Akhmednabiyev Prize for 2016 for her article "Circumcised women subject their daughters to circumcision". In her article, Svetlana Anokhina described the practice of female circumcision in Dagestan.

The second place was shared by Elena Kostyuchenko, a journalist of the newspaper "Novaya Gazeta" for the report "Dreams of Beslan", and Akhmed Aldebirov for the material "How to go to Europe and get the status of 'runaway refugee'" published on the "Caucasian Knot". The third place went to Ragimat Adamova from Dagestan with the material "How actually inmates of boarding school for mentally retarded children live" and Yegor Skovoroda, a journalist of the "Media Zone", for the article "'Lie down or I'll kill you!'. The press tour to Chechnya".
