Chechen woman apologizes for complaining about Grozny authorities

Yakha Beksultanova, who had complained to Ramzan Kadyrov about the inaction of the authorities after the fire in Grozny, which deprived 95 people of their housing, brought a public apology.

Her appeal to the head of Chechnya was caused by the May 15 fire in the apartment house. Then, Beksultanova and her 20-year-old son received severe burns; and 95 tenants lost their housing. She wrote to Kadyrov's Instagram that on May 18, the victims were invited to the Mayoralty of Grozny, where they were offered one-room apartments instead of their burst-down two-room ones, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

On May 19, the "Grozny" TV Channel showed a report, in which Beksultanova apologizes for her complaint.

"I had known nothing and decided that nothing was being done. Today, I’m sure that a lot of work is underway," she said.

"By her thoughtless statement, Yakha Beksultanova not just slandered people, but could also provoke unjustified ill-wishers’ actions," the report’s author has summed up.

A source from the Mayoralty has assured that all the fire victims are receiving full-fledged help.

Quite often, such appeals to Kadyrov lead to problems with appellants themselves, activists of local NGOs have stated.

According to the head of one of them, exclusively serious cases force people to appeal directly to Ramzan Kadyrov.
