Medical officers refuse surgery for blogger Mekhman Guseinov sentenced in Baku

Medical officers of the Medical Department of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice (MoJ) have pronounced diagnose of varicose veins for blogger Mekhman Guseinov sentenced for two years of imprisonment. However, they rejected the need for surgery. An advocate of the blogger does not agree with the decision of the medical officers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 9, Mekhman Guseinov was detained and later, he complained about torture. In response, the chief of the Nasimi District Police Department of Baku demanded to bring Mekhman Guseinov to justice for defamation.

On Facebook, Mekhman Guseinov posted video materials about the corruption of top-ranking officials. Reports were published in the satirical online magazine "Sancaq" read by more than 100,000 users.

Iftikhar Gurbanov, the deputy head of the Chief Medical Department of the Azerbaijani MoJ, has stated that the prisoner's disease does not create problems for him in his everyday life. "Mekhman Guseinov lived at liberty with his pathology," notes Iftikhar Gurbanov in his report.

According to the Chief Medical Department of the Azerbaijani MoJ, the blogger has been examined by specialists and still stays under the control of medical officers.
