Prosecutor demands up to 20 years in prison for figurants in KBR’s caliphate case

At the court session on May 18, the state prosecutor stated the defendants’ guilt of the attempt to create a Caliphate in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) and called on the court to treat critically the defence witnesses’ testimonies. The Ruslan Kipshiev's advocate stated contradictions in the prosecution's version and asked the court to regret his client.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the case of KBR’s natives has been considered, since August 2016, by the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don. In mid-April, the trial was suspended for checking the defendants’ torture statements.

The state prosecutor Fatimat Molova has stated that the defendants are guilty of illicit trafficking in drugs and weapons, of creating an illegal armed formation (IAF) and participating therein, as well as of the attempt on the life of Police Colonel Arthur Tembotov.

She demanded for the defendants from 5 to 20 years in jail, adding that most of the defence witnesses are defendants’ relatives or friends, who want to "help them to escape responsibility."

Also, Fatimat Molova urged the court not to trust the defendants’ reports about pressure and torture.
