MFAs of Abkhazia and South Ossetia condemn USA for supporting Georgia's integrity

Today, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (MFAs) of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have criticized the US administration for its support of the territorial integrity of Georgia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 6, the new federal budget of the USA came into force, which for the first time mentioned the problem of the territorial integrity of Georgia. The separate paragraph entitled "The occupation of the Georgian territories of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia" prohibits supporting any country in the world that recognizes the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and taking "actions aimed at supporting the Russian occupation of these regions."

Today, the MFA of Abkhazia has issued a statement on the issue and accused the US authorities of double standards and pressure on "unwanted states" and "undesirable citizens."

"It is regrettable that the new US administration has chosen a dead-end road to support the Georgia's absurd claims, which suppose an even greater blockade and international isolation of Abkhazia," claims the statement published on the website of the Abkhazian MFA.

Today, the South Ossetian MFA has also commented on the support of the territorial integrity of Georgia by the US and the decision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CMCE) to treat Russia as a party to the conflict in South Ossetia, made on May 3.

"In Washington and Brussels, officials should take into account that the defeat of Georgia in the 2008 war and the subsequent official recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as sovereign independent states have not cooled the revanchist sentiment in Georgia and that the support of the West threatens with the Georgia's new aggressive actions against neighbouring states," reports the message, published on the website of the MFA of South Ossetia.
