The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mardiros Demerchyan worked in Sochi at construction of Olympic facilities and was detained on June 12, 2013, on charge of stealing building materials. According to investigators, at that construction site, an electric cable worth over 50,000 roubles was stolen, and Samvel Pashyan, allegedly, was the claimant about the theft.

On May 10, the court questioned Samvel Pashyan, the former employer of Mardiros Demerchyan, for the first time.

The witness told the court that in 2013 he "worked at the Olympic construction site on Urozhainaya Street, where houses for volunteers in the village of Vesyoloye were built," stating that he did not turn to the police about the loss of the cable.

"I had turned nowhere about the theft of the cable. I hadn't called or written to the police. On June 12, 2013, six policemen arrived at the construction site. They handcuffed Mardiros Demerchyan and left with him," Samvel Pashyan told the court.

According to the witness, he "had no complaints about the work of Mardiros Demerchyan."
