In Astrakhan, Court confirms legality of refusal to sanction anti-corruption action

The Astrakhan Regional Court has dismissed an appeal against the decision of the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan to recognize as lawful the refusal of the Astrakhan City Mayor's Office to sanction an anti-corruption rally. Activists intend to challenge the decision of the Astrakhan Regional Court.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 15, activists Andrei Yegorov and Boris Kolomin filed notifications for holding anti-corruption rallies on March 26. However, the Astrakhan City Mayor's Office refused to sanction the rallies. The activists filed an appeal against the refusal to the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan; however, on March 23, the District Court recognized as legitimate the refusal of the Astrakhan City Mayor's Office to sanction the rallies of Alexei Navalny's supporters.

The activists have noted that they were actually refused in their constitutional right to hold a peaceful assembly under the pretext that another public event would be held at the given place.
