KBR resident accused of trying to join Syrian militants

The case of a resident of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, who is accused of trying to leave for Syria to join the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (IS), banned in Russia, has been sent to the court.

According to investigators, a Kyrgyz citizen, who actually lives in the KBR, bought an air ticket to Turkey. Via the territory of Turkey, he "intended to get to Syria and join the IS there," the KBR’s Prosecutor's Office asserts.

"However, as a result of operative-search actions, the defendant’s plan was disrupted. In the course of the inquiry into his criminal case, he has completely pled guilty," says the website of the Prosecutor's Office.
