Activists demand to look into arrests for action in Sochi "Hyde Park"

Members of the board of the movement "Open Sochi" have turned to the city prosecutor's office demanding to clear out the situation with the arrested supporters of Alexei Navalny after the action held in the "Hyde Park". Organizers have no need to coordinate actions planned in the "Hyde Park" three days in advance with the authorities, activists assert.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 16 ten activists went out against the corruption in the "Hyde Park" in Khosta; eight of them were detained. On April 17, Suren Edigarov, the organizer of the action, was sentenced to eight days of arrest. Besides, Olga Smirnova was arrested for five days and Konstantin Gudimov – for ten days; the latter went on a dry hunger strike after detention. On the same day, Tatyana Voronina was arrested for two days.

Today, the members of the "Open Sochi" Nina Rogachova, Gennady Kotenko and Roman Dyakov met Sergey Zhuravlyo, the Deputy Public Prosecutor of Sochi. Activists demanded from him to intervene in the situation with the arrests, Ms Rogachova said.

According to her story, the Deputy Prosecutor "promised to study the arguments in favour of the innocence of the organizer and participants of the April 16 action, request materials from the Mayoralty, police and the court, and give them an objective evaluation."
