Relatives announce disappearance of Malgobek resident

Magomed Kartoev, a resident of Malgobek, who complained about pressure from power agents, has disappeared while trying to leave Russia, his relatives have reported. Magomed Multsogov, the head of the human rights organization “Mashr”, has linked Kartoev's disappearance with a criminal case against his cousin.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 9, relatives of Mikail Kartoev, a resident of Malgobek, turned to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" and reported that power agents had detained Mikail and took him to some unknown place. According to relatives, during a search, power agents planted a grenade into his pocket.

Mikail’s cousin, Magomed Kartoev, a coach in freestyle wrestling, was a witness in the case, Mr Mutsolgov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "Magomed saw power agents planting a grenade and a pistol into his cousin’s pocket, and how the latter argued with them." Magomed felt pressure and wanted to leave the republic; but yesterday, on the Azerbaijani-Russian border, he was detained by border guards; and now his whereabouts remains unknown, "said Mutsolgov, referring to relatives of Magomed Kartoev.
