In Chechnya, attack on National Guard becomes third armed incident since beginning of year

In Chechnya, the shootout at a checkpoint in the Naur District, in which six fighters of the National Guard and six militants were killed, became at least the third armed clash between law enforcers and suspected members of the armed underground in the republic since early 2017.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last night, eight militants attacked a unit of the National Guard at a checkpoint in Chechnya. Six of the attackers were killed, and two others fled, reports a source from the law enforcement bodies. During the attack, six fighters of the National Guard were killed, and three others were injured.

On January 30, in Shali, policemen were attacked after they tried to stop suspicious people. Two policemen and three attackers were killed, and two civilians were injured.

On January 11, during the armed clash in the village of Tsotsi-Yurt of the Kurchaloi District, four suspected militants and two fighters of the National Guard were killed. One of the suspected militants managed to flee. The killed suspects were identified as Umar Ozdiev, Raibek Idrisov, Alikhan Kupchiev, and Uzum-Khadji Madaev. Law enforcers announce that the suspects had connections with the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia. On January 14, Imran Datsaev, who, according to law enforcers, fled on January 11, was detained in Grozny.
