Group of Friendship Between Caucasian People created in Georgia
A presentation of the Group of Friendship Between Caucasian People, formed of six deputies of the parliament, has taken place in the building of the Georgian parliament today, the Caucasian Knot correspondent was told at the press service of the Georgian parliament. The Group of Friendship Between Caucasian People is created on the initiative of deputies Koba Davitashvili and Zviad Dzidziguri - members of the party Union of National Forces - Conservatives.
According to Koba Davitashvili, the group is going to monitor the extradition of Chechen refugees to Russia and cooperate with the Georgian government so that to provide the political equality of rights of displaced persons and other citizens. The Group of Friendship Between Caucasian People plans to establish a legal center to offer free legal advice to refugees from Chechnya and a fund to provide social protection for refugees, for example to pay monetary compensation and offer different kinds of aid.
250 thousand refugees and displaced persons live in Georgia today, 8 thousand of them being ethnic Chechens.
