Tyrnyauz residents believe creating jobs to be Zalikhanov’s main task
Absence of employment is the main reason why many young people leave the city of Tyrnyauz; and the new head of the Elbrus District, Kanshaubiy Zalikhanov, should remedy the situation, said the residents of the district centre, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot". In their opinion, the greatest potentials for creating jobs are in the production and tourist spheres.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mr Zalikhanov saw his main tasks in developing Elbrus Tourist Complex and creating a mining and ore-dressing complex based on the Tyrnyauz tungsten-molybdenum deposit.
The collapse of the Tyrnyauz Combine occurred in the 1990s and led to an increase in youth unemployment, becoming one of the reasons for the intensification of the armed underground in the Elbrus District. According to the “Rosstat” (Russian Federal State Statistics Service), in 1992 the population of the city was 31,000, while by 2016 it dropped down to 20,551 people.
The new district head should improve public order in streets; and first positive results are already seen, said Ali Kuchmazov, a Tyrnyauz resident.
So many young people leave Tyrnyauz that it began turning into a "ghost city", said Zhaukhar Gekkieva, deputy director of the local school.
