Oppositionist Bagirzade released from jail in Azerbaijan ahead of time

The court decided to release Zeinal Bagirzade, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is serving his eight-year prison term in the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR), because of his poor health. This was reported by his brother Yashar Bagirsoi, the chairman of the regional branch of the PFPA.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Zeinal Bagirzade was detained in November 2015 on charges of using violence against a law enforcer. On February 3, 2016, the court sentenced Bagirzade to eight years in prison.

On February 28, Baghirzade's relatives stated that he had been was tortured in jail for lodging a complaint against his verdict to the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan.

Let us note here that Bagirzade is on the list of 167 political prisoners, released by the Centre for the Protection of Political Prisoners (CPPP).
