NAC reports neutralizing inactive unit affiliated with IS in Dagestan

As a result of a joint operation, the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) have neutralized an inactive unit affiliated with the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS) banned in Russia. The inactive unit involved four people, one of whom was killed in Derbent and three others were detained. This was reported by the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 5, law enforcers cordoned off several houses in the area of the Buynaksk Street in Derbent. A local resident was killed in a shootout. According to a source from the law enforcement bodies of Dagestan, the killed man was suspected of involvement in a robbery committed earlier.

In parallel with the above operation, three more members of the grouping were detained in other locations, reports the National Antiterrorist Committee.

"According to reports, they were members of the so-called 'inactive' criminal unit affiliated with the IS, and they were involved in acts of robbery committed against the local population," reports the NAC in its release as quoted by the "RBC".

According to the NAC, the members of the grouping "intended to commit crimes against public officials and law enforcers."

Meanwhile, the exact places of detentions have not been reported.
