State Duma deputy requests General Prosecutor to investigate killings of dogs in Makhachkala

Alexander Starovoitov, a State Duma deputy, has appealed to Russian General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika with a request to carry out a check on the information posted by users of social network "Instagram" about shooting of dogs in Makhachkala, launched after the girl's death, and announce the results of the examination with respect to the causes of the child's death.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 19 in Makhachkala the body of a nine-year girl was found; by the preliminary investigators’ version, she died as a result of stray dogs’ attacks. After the incident, residents of Dagestan began reporting mass shooting of stray dogs in the republic.

"In recent days, shooting of animals, namely dogs, has been taking place in the territory of the Republic of Dagestan and in particular in the city of Makhachkala. According to many users of social network 'Instagram', the crimes are committed with extreme cruelty on large scale by local residents with the approval of the city authorities," stated Alexander Starovoitov, a Russian State Duma deputy, in his appeal of February 27 to Russian General Prosecutor Yuri Chaika.

According to the appeal, the State Duma deputy appealed to the General Prosecutor on February 23. In the evening of the same day, he was informed by the General Prosecutor's Office that the law enforcement authorities of Makhachkala had launched a check of the facts.

"However, according to local residents, shootings of dog have not stopped... Later, the same social network reported that the girl's death had occurred as a result of rape and murder, and in order to conceal the crime, unidentified criminals hid the body in the reeds to attract the attention of wild dogs, which later devoured her body," noted Alexander Starovoitov in his message posted on his page on the social network "VKontakte".

The State Duma deputy has appealed to the General Prosecutor with a request to verify the information.
