Sochi residents urge to cancel permit for build-up of Maly Akhun

Residents of the resort micro-district Maly Akhun have held a meeting with the chair of the territorial self-government body (known as TOS) and decided to send via him an appeal to the Sochi Mayor with a request to cancel the development of the territory of the local national park. Citizens reported that the consideration of their complaint against the decision to transfer the land to a Moscow company, adopted without taking into account the opinion of local residents, was scheduled for February 28.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2015, the territory of recreational area of the National Park in Maly Akhun was fenced; and the construction of a cottage settlement was launched there. In April 2016, the court refused to recognize the construction as illegal. Locals sought intervention into the situation of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF); however, they continued felling trees in the park.

So far, all the efforts to protect the park have achieved nothing, said Galina Kochkina, the head of public organization "Sochi Old-Timers".

Because of the build-up, citizens will lose their public road and green spaces, said Elena Zaslavskaya, a pensioner and a former chief specialist for construction of the territorial administration.

"The people’ habitat will worsen, as well as the flora and the fauna," she has added.
