Armenian Defence Minister finds use of "Iskanders" possible

Missile complexes "Iskander", shipped by Russia, belong to the Armed Forces of Armenia; and the decision to use them will depend on the situation in the region, said Vigen Sarkisyan, the head of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Russian-made missile complexes "Iskander", as part of the Armenian Army, were first demonstrated on September 21, 2016, in Yerevan, at the military parade, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Armenia's independence. According to President Serzh Sargsyan, the "Iskanders" have been deployed in the country in order to "balance the military situation in the region." Armenian and Russian experts have not ruled out the use of "Iskanders" by Armenia, depending on the actions of Azerbaijan.

Minister Sarkisyan has specified that Armenia will continue its dialogue with Russia on possible purchases of military equipment.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 8, 2016, after the escalation of the Karabakh conflict, Dmitry Rogozin, the Russian Vice-Premier, said that Russia would continue supplying weapons to Baku and Yerevan under the earlier concluded contracts.
