Zhalaudi Geriev's defence files appeal against verdict
Today, advocates Alaudi Musaev and Nadezhda Ermolaeva have filed to the Presidium of the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic an appeal in the case against Zhalaudi Geriev, a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The defence requests to cancel the verdict pronounced by the Shali District Court and the decision of the judicial board on criminal cases of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic to leave the sentence without changes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the defence described the decision pronounced by the Chechen SC in the Zhalaudi Geriev's case as illegal.
The advocates, who filed the appeal against the verdict to Zhalaudi Geriev, described the judicial board of the Chechen Supreme Court as qualified, but "constrained."
According to advocate Alaudi Musaev, he never faced problems with acceptance of a complaint. He has also noted that the specific features of consideration of criminal cases by the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the Chechen Republic do not differ from legal proceedings in other regions of Russia.
"In accordance with the laws of the Russian Federation, within one month from the date of filing of a complaint, judges of the SC should refuse the consideration or to transfer the case to the Presidium for consideration," said Alaudi Musaev.
In case if the Presidium of the Chechen Supreme Court evokes the case, then according to regulations, an answer should be produced within two months, and within one month in case if the case is not evoked, specified Nadezhda Ermolaeva.
