MIA counts over thousand Dagestanis fighting for IS in Syria

In Syria, in the ranks of militants of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russian by court's decision, about 1200 residents of Dagestan are fighting, Abdurashid Magomedov, the head of the republic's MIA, has stated today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 10, 2015, Minister Magomedov reported that about 900 natives of Dagestan were fighting then in Syria siding with local militants.

He presented the new figure today at the republic's forum "Our District Policeman".

"Unfortunately, in recent years, Dagestan has become infamous in this regard, and, although over the past 3-4 years the situation has changed significantly, the problem still persists... Over 1200 our fellow countrymen are fighting in Syria in the ranks of the ISIL. We have failed our work in this area, and let these people to go to someone else's war," said Abdurashid Magomedov.

According to his story, the problem of preventing offences and crimes in Dagestan has not been solved.
