HRC stands for solving hijab issue at schools at regional level

The authorities of the regions, where wearing hijabs has long been practiced, should decide themselves whether to allow them in schools, said Evgeny Bobrov, the deputy chairman of the Human Rights Council (HRC), in his comment on the dispute of Minister Olga Vasilieva with Ramzan Kadyrov. The Kremlin will not interfere into this debate, said Dmitri Peskov, the President's press secretary.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, Olga Vasilieva, the Head of the Russia's Ministry of Education and Sciences, said that schoolchildren of the Russian Federation should not emphasize his religion by attributes. The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has accused her of starting a war on hijabs.

The Chechen MPs from the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party are drafting a law, under which "schoolchildren of various nationalities, if they wish, may wear hijabs, crosses and skull-caps," Magomed Daudov, the Speaker of Chechen Parliament, wrote in his Instagram.

The position of the head of Chechnya was supported by Igor Kalyapin, the chairman of the "Committee for the Prevention of Torture" (CPT). According to his story, the head of Chechnya is absolutely right, "arguing that adherence to religious canons is one's private matter."

Alexei Grishin, a member of the Public Chamber and the president of the information-analytical agency "Religion and Society", is categorically against "any active manifestations of religiosity" by Muslims at schools. According to his version, the situation may reach the point of absurdity, since other religious organizations would like to achieve preferences.

In his opinion, although children should be given knowledge about world religions, "any religion manifestations should be left outside educational establishments," the portal "Islam and Society" reports.
