Residents of Chechnya state no conflicts over school dress code

At educational institutions of Chechnya, schoolgirls and female students must wear headscarves, even if they are not Muslims; however, there were no conflicts around the issue, said the interviewed residents of the republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 24, Olga Vasilieva, the Head of the Ruusia's Ministry of Education and Sciences, said that Russian schoolgirls should not emphasize their religion by any attributes. The head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov has accused Minister Vasilieva of unleashing a war on hijabs. The Chechen Parliament has begun drafting a law that will officially allow wearing religious attributes at schools.

The lawyer Adam Abubakarov has supported the criticism of the above Ministry, treating the conflict over hijabs as "created artificially."

From September 1, 2016, all the schools of Grozny switched over to a single school uniform, the residents of the republic informed the "Caucasian Knot". The uniform for girls includes a red headscarf. Then, townspeople complained that the uniform was too expensive and of poor quality.

There are no conflicts in Chechnya of parents with administrations of educational institutions because of the dress code, said Aset Malsagova, a rights defender.

A senior form schoolgirl said that her school bosses "control the appearance of schoolchildren."
