Opposition newspaper resumes its work
The opposition newspaper Yeni Musavat, the publication of which was suspended because of financial problems, has resumed its work in Azerbaijan today. "'The resumption of the newspaper's work became possible due only to the readers and people who decided to help us in this difficult period of time," acting editor-in-chief Gabil Abbasoglu said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent. But at the same time he pointed out that the publication of the newspaper "is transient by nature". The Yeni Musavat's financial problems began at the end of 2003, after the execution of court penalty provisions. In particular, the newspaper's bank accounts were arrested, and all receipts from sale are used to liquidate the debts. In 2000-2003, courts imposed fines on the Yeni Musavat to the sum of $160 thousand. The Yeni Musavat has been published since 1989. It has the largest circulation among opposition newspapers in Azerbaijan.
