Complaint against verdict to Imam Magomedov to be considered by military judicial board

The legality of the sentence passed to Magomednabi Magomedov, an Imam of the "Eastern" mosque of Khasavyurt, will be considered by the military judicial collegium of the Russian Supreme Court (SC) on January 26, 2017, said his advocate Dagir Khasavov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Imam Magomedov to five years in prison for incitement to terrorism, which investigators had found in his sermon on peaceful ways to protect Salafis' rights. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" announced Magomedov a political prisoner.

On November 15, Magomedov was placed into the dungeon of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Rostov-on-Don. The Imam told his advocate that he does not know the reasons. On November 18, Magomedov was released from the dungeon before term.

According to the advocate Dagir Khasavov, the only document that allegedly confirms Magomedov's crime "is the linguistic analysis of his speech," the "Voice of Islam" reports.

One of the users of the Facebook asked the advocate why the Imam's complaint would be considered by the military judicial collegium. "Every 'extremist' in the criminal process is treated on a par with a military," said Khasavov.
