Sochi residents blame authorities for inability to finish Olympic purification facilities

In 2016, the second phase of the Bzugu wastewater purification plant was not completed, although the authorities promised to commission it back in 2014, environmentalists and activists of Sochi have stated. According to their version, the Bzugu facilities are the "last protracted Olympic object."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July 2016, Nikolai Zotov, the head of the "Bzugu" section of sewage treatment facilities, said that the second phase cannot be completed for lack of financing.

According to Zotov, in 2016, no money was allocated to complete the Bzugu purification facilities.

In his turn, Vladimir Kimaev, an ecologist and a member of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus", has noted that the Sochi Prosecutor's Office had drawn attention to the idleness of the customer and the contractor in building the Bzugu facilities.

"The statements that there is no money can't be reasonable," Mr Kimaev believes, drawing attention to the fact that the judgement of the Khosta District Court of November 26, 2015, stated that the funds had been allocated for the development of project documentation for the construction of the first and second phases of the Bzugu facilities.

"Where is the money, if the court found that they had been allocated both for the first and second phases?" asks Vladimir Kimaev.
