Group of servicemen fired for refusal to go to Syria from Chechnya (+video)

Twelve servicemen from the unit of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) stationed at the Khankala military base near Grozny, were dismissed from service for their refusal to go to Syria, said the sources, adding that all the fired militaries are local residents.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, a video appeared on the Internet, showing that militaries were sent to Syria from a suburb of Grozny. A joint detachment of 500 military policemen was sent to Syria, a law enforcement source said on December 9.

A source from the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has added that there were much more those wishing to go to Syria than those who refused to go there, because they were promised "increased salaries and other benefits."

A source, working at the Khankala military base, reported that the detachment sent to Syria, includes also Dagestanis, Russians and other nationals.

After the appearance of the above video, Chechnya began checking the disclosure of this information; and sending the militaries was suspended, Chechen military commissariats have reported.

It is worth noting that sending Chechen militaries to Syria has caused a negative reaction from a part of the republic's population.
