Volgograd residents urge to amend reconstruction project of Aviators' Highway
The reconstruction project of the highway in the Volgograd neighbourhood of Gumrak was not discussed with the public; the works are performed in violation of regulations, and, as it turned out, provide for the installation of huge noise suppression shields in front of houses, residents complained at their meeting with officials. As a result, a working group was set up, but residents were warned that they should not hope for any dramatic changes of the project.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a large-scale reconstruction of roads is carried out in the Volgograd Region in the context of preparations for the 2018 Football World Cup. Activists of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) pointed out that the quality of repairs leaves much to be desired.
Townspeople said that road works cause a lot of problems.
The road reconstruction began in May, said Roman Varsheev, a local resident. According to his story, many locals were engaged in off-road businesses – car service or hairdressing. Now, a high fence will hide these facilities and "strangle the businesses."
Vladimir Suodaitis, another local, said that the roadway passes close to his house, but the drive into it is difficult.
The reason why local residents are not shown the road project is not disclosed, said Andrei Yatsyshen, a City Duma Deputy.
The meeting with the officials was organized with the help of the "Independent Public Inspection", headed by the activist Alexei Ulyanov. According to his version, the decision to lower the highway is to building regulations.
