Stenin's defence appeals against toughening his custody regime

The transfer of Igor Stenin, the leader of the movement "Russians of Astrakhan", who is serving his sentence in the Tambov Region, from the colony-settlement to the general-regime colony has no grounds and should be abolished, his defence has stated in the complaint against the court judgement. The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" has expressed its solidarity with the defence's position.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Igor Stenin was sentenced to two years in colony for reposting in social network an article about the war in the Ukraine; while the defence had unsuccessfully tried to explain the court that the point was in the comment of another user under the message made by Stenin.

Alexander Strebkov, a lawyer of the Tambov City Bar, pointed out that the court had failed to consider the contradictions in Stenin's characterization, and failed to check whether the procedure of recognizing him a worst offender had been observed. Besides, the court had ignored the explanations given by Stenin.

The lawyer explained that the characterization document compiled at Astrakhan Colony No. 10 depicts Igor Stenin as quiet, polite and responsible person, who nicely responds to educational influence.
