SIZO administration rejects Varvara Karaulova's claim on non-admission of advocates to her

In its response to the request of the court, the administration of the "Lefortovo" SIZO (pre-trial prison) has reported that advocates of Varvara Karaulova, a former student of the Moscow State University (MSU), were allowed to visit their client at the SIZO "in accordance with the law." The advocates of the defendant have stated that the SIZO warders do not have the right to decide on admission of advocate, but they should just to arrange visits.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from October 5, the Moscow District Military Court considers the case against Varvara Karaulova (Alexandra Ivanova), accused of attempting to join a terrorist organization in Syria. The defendant pleads not guilty. At the court hearing held on November 30, Varvara Karaulova and her defenders claimed that the SIZO administration demanded from the defendant's advocates to get permissions to visit her.

On December 5, at the trial in the case, the judge read out the response got from the "Lefortovo" SIZO concerning the claim filed by the defendant and her advocates about non-admission of the defenders to their client at the SIZO.

"Advocates Sergey Badamshin and Gadji Aliev were allowed to visit their client in accordance with the law," states the response got from the SIZO administration.

Besides, on December 5, at the request of public prosecutor, the Court extended the arrest of Varvara Karaulova until January 13, 2017.
