Chechen car owners complain about police arbitrariness

In Chechnya, the raids against violators of traffic rules have resulted in massive violations of the rights of car owners. This was reported by residents of the Chechen Republic.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from September 28, by the order of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, the police have been holding large-scale activities to identify and punish violators of traffic rules.

"On November 30, my car was seized for my offence. I was driving on the highway when the car in front of me suddenly braked. In order to avoid collision with it, I pulled the steering wheel aside, and two wheels of my car touched a median strip. Policemen immediately run from all sides, began to shoot me on video, seized my documents, and ordered to follow them to the police station," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a resident of Chechnya.

According to him, after he paid the fine imposed on him, his car and his documents were not returned to him.

"A police officer told me that they had an instruction of their bosses to keep cars and driver's licences for ten days. I was trying to explain to him that it was illegal, but he smiled ironically and said: 'If you are dissatisfied with something, then go to complain to Ramzan.' I have nothing to say. It is a real arbitrariness," the man believes.
