Arthur Sargsyan arrested in Yerevan nominated for Aurora Prize

Arthur Sargsyan, arrested for assisting rebels, is nominated for the annual Aurora Prize. He broke through a police cordon and delivered food to people who on July 17 seized the building of the regiment of the patrol-and-post police service in Yerevan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the period from July 17 to July 31, members of the group "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sassoun) created by supporters of the opposition movement "Constituent Parliament" held the building of the police regimen seized by them in Yerevan. At night of July 26, Arthur Sargsyan broke through the police cordon around the building and delivered food for the rebels. The court pronounced the pre-trial restriction measure to Arthur Sargsyan in the form of arrest. The activist is suspected of assistance in hostage-taking and illegal purchase and possession of weapons.

Arthur Sargsyan was nominated for the annual Aurora Prize by his friends. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Arman Djilavyan, the leader of the humanitarian initiative "Aurora". He has also added that this year, 558 candidates are nominated for the Aurora Prize.

The Aurora Prize was established within the "100 LIVES" project of the "Initiatives for Development of Armenia" (IDeA) Charity Foundation. The Aurora Prize is awarded to people who risk their lives to help others to survive and promote the ideas of humanism.
