Witness in Karaulova’s case tells about women fighting for IS

Today, at the court session on the case of Varvara Karaulova, accused of attempting to participate in a terrorist organization in Syria, Atach Fyrat, a Turkish citizen and a native of the Turkish city of Diyarbakir, was questioned as an additional witness, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom.

It was announced during the session that in 2011 Atach Fyrat joined the militants fighting in Syria.

"Are women at war in Syria against Bashar al-Assad? What are they doing there?" the Prosecutor Mikhail Reznichenko asked the witness.

"Women are really walking around there with firearms. They are involved in the warfare as snipers, because they do it better. But a woman, who is at war, should have a husband. In the ‘Islamic State’ (IS) (recognized in Russia as a terrorist organization and banned by the court judgement, – note of the "Caucasian Knot"), women undergo their military training; and then, they take part in warfare together with their husbands," the witness told the court.

"For 30 days, foreign women are kept in Turkish camps; the security service checks them for not being spies. At the same time they are taught to handle weapons. All the gadgets are taken away from them. It’s not possible to come to such camp by oneself – one should be invited by someone," the witness, who testified in the Turkish language, told the court through the interpreter.
