"HALO Trust" raises money to clear Karabakh village of mines

The international organization "HALO Trust" has organized raising of 30,000 US dollars for mine clearance of the village of Myurishen of the Martakert District of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The fundraising is a part of the campaign "Safe steps for Karabakh residents", aimed at mine clearance of the most dangerous areas in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The area of the territory to be cleared is 1.8 hectares. Mines pose a threat not only to 500 residents of the village of Myurishen, but also for residents of the neighbouring village of Vazgenashen, the "Armenpress" reports with reference to the press service of the "HALO Trust".

According to "HALO Trust", since 1995, in Myurishen, at least five persons were injured in explosion of mines. In total, in 2007 and 2011, being engaged in activities to clear three fields of the village, members of the "HALO Trust" found 38 anti-personnel mines and two anti-tank mines, the "Novosti-Armenia" reports.

The campaign will last until November 19. As at 6:26 a.m. Moscow time of October 24, the amount of 19,198 US dollars (64%) was raised, the official website of the "HALO Trust" reports.
