On October 10-16, 2016, at least 12 persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
During the week of October 10-16, 2016, at least 12 persons fell victim to the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Of them, 11 were killed, and one person was wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.
The death toll includes suspected members of the armed underground: eight in Dagestan and three – in Kabardino-Balkaria.
Special and counterterrorist operations
At night of October 10, in the Suleiman-Stalsky District of Dagestan, law enforcers clashed with a group of militants in a wooded area east of the village of Tsmur. Three militants were killed, and a special forces soldier was wounded. According to the preliminary information, the killed suspects were identified as 19-year-old Idayat Mursalov, 28-year-old Nurali Gamzatov, and 32-year-old Alekber Aliskerov, natives of villages of the Magaramkent District. On October 12, the counterterrorist operation (CTO) legal regime was lifted in the Suleiman-Stalsky and Magaramkent Districts.
On October 12, the CTO legal regime was introduced in the village of Gubden of the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan. In the village, law enforcers cordoned off a house with suspected militants. During the armed clash, law enforcers killed three suspected members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), who were identified as Abubakar Udziev, suspected of leading a group of militants, and his wife Khalimat Magomedova, and their cousin Osman Udziev, an owner of the house. On October 12, the CTO legal regime in the village of Gubden was lifted.
On October 13, the CTO legal regime was introduced within the Shamil District of Dagestan. The activities for searching of militants were mainly carried out in the vicinity of villages of Teletl and Gogotl. On October 16, the special operation was completed.
On October 13, the CTO legal regime was introduced within the territory of the Chegem Municipal District of Kabardino-Balkaria, within the administrative boundaries of the villages of Yanikoi, Mir, Kamenka, and Shalushka. During the search for militants who killed policemen in the town of Prokhladny, law enforcers tried to stop to a car for check on the road Yanikoi-Lechinkai. Three militants opened fire from the car, and they were killed by return fire. The number of the identified suspects includes Murat Kaufov, the leader of the militant grouping, born in 1996, Islam Nagoev, born in 1992, and Aslabek Nakhushev, born in 1994. All of them were involved in an attempt on staff members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) committed in the town of Prokhladny on October 9.
On October 16, in Dagestan, the CTO legal regime was introduced in the city of Derbent. Law enforcers cordoned off a group of militants who refused to lay down arms and opened fire on the law enforcers. Two militants were killed in the armed clash.
Bombings and terror acts
On October 16, in Naberezhnaya Street in Khasavyurt, a suspicious object, resembling an explosive device, was found. The street was cordoned off. The discovered object was identified as an improvised explosive device (IED). Combat engineers succeeded in defusing the IED, and no one was injured.
