Picket against "Electrozink" held in Sochi

A solo picket was held by Atsamaz Khadikov, an activist of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch).

For many years residents of North Ossetia have been holding actions against the operation of the metallurgical "Electrozink" Factory, one of the largest non-ferrous metallurgy enterprises in Russia.

The picket was held on October 7 in the mini-park in Constitution Street, opposite the city polyclinic; and attracted the attention of many patients, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

Mr Khadikov associates the growing number of diseases in the capital of North Ossetia with the deteriorating state of the environment under the influence of the above enterprise.

"My goal is to convey our must to protect the nature to all inhabitants of the country," he has stressed.

In 2016, the North-Ossetian authorities decided to close the environmentally harmful production of lead. This year, they plan to commission two sets of new equipment that should improve the performance of the production of sulphuric acid.
