Leader of "For Human Rights" branch arrested in Volgograd

Igor Nagavkin, the leader of the Volgograd branch of the movement "For Human Rights", has been arrested for two months.

On October 1, Igor Nagavkin was detained in Volgograd. Today, the court has pronounced the decision to arrest him. This was reported by Lev Ponomaryov, the leader of the All-Russian movement "For Human Rights".

"For many years, he fought for the rights of prisoners and amassed a lot of enemies in the system," said Lev Ponomaryov as quoted by the "Echo of Moscow".

Igor Nagavkin is accused of stealing jewellery. According to advocate Evgeny Nizhegorodov, Igor Nagavkin pleads not guilty.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the criminal case opened against Igor Nagavkin in 2011. He was then suspected of an attempted theft of a tire of a police car. Igor Nagavkin claimed that the criminal case was instituted after he had organized "fight against drug dealers of the Volgograd Region."
