Injured party demands new inquiry into massacre in Gyumri

Not only Valery Permyakov should respond for the killing members of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri; therefore, the case should be re-investigated, said the legal representatives of the successors of the casualties in their complaint against the verdict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 23 the court found Valery Permyakov guilty of killing seven members of the Avetisyan family and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The injured party has announced its intention to appeal against the verdict.

A petition demanding to cancel or change the judgment was lodged today to the Court of Appeal of Armenia by two representatives of the injured party – Arthur Sakunts, a rights defender and the head of the Vanadzor Office of the Helsinki Civil Assembly, and Araik Zalyan, an advocate.

The case was not properly investigated; the motives for the crime were not established; and the persons in charge were not brought to justice, Arthur Sakunts told the "Caucasian Knot".
