Yuri Kokov offers to create unified Adyg writing system

Today, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) marks the Circassians' (Adygs') Day. On this occasion, it was declared a day off in the republic. On the eve of the holiday, the 11th Extraordinary Congress of the International Circassian Association (ICA) was held. The head of the republic Yuri Kokov has proposed to "come to grips with the creation of a unified Adygs' written language."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Circassians' Day was established on August 12, 2014, by a decree of the head of the KBR.

On September 19, the Congress was attended by delegates from Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Israel, Abkhazia, as well as the heads of the leading Adygs' organizations of the Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, Adygea and the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR).

Mr Kokov has stressed that "while in previous years the main point was the preservation of the language and culture of the Adyg nation," it is now time to think about building a long-term policy of national consciousness of Circassians (Adygs).

According to his version, it is necessary to use all the benefits of globalization, while not losing one's national roots. He added that all the Circassian public organizations-members of the ICA should take a more proactive stance in supporting Russia's policy in their countries of residence.
