Police protect "Greenpeace" camp in Kuban

In the Krasnodar Territory, law enforcers have organized a round-the-clock protection of the camp arranged by the participants of the fire prevention expedition of the "Greenpeace" and the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch), who were attacked at night.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the Krasnodar Territory, the camp of the participants of the fire prevention expedition of the "Greenpeace" and the "EcoWatch" was attacked by eight armed men. As a result of the attack, Mikhail Kreindlin, a specialist in environmental law, and Andrei Polomoshnov, a volunteer from the Trans-Baikal Territory, were injured.

According to Andrei Rudomakha, the coordinator of the "EcoWatch", on September 8, when the members of the fire prevention expedition extinguished a major reed fire in the territory of the Chernovsky floodplains in the Primorsko-Akhtarsk District of the Krasnodar Territory, they "were visited by Cossacks", who demanded from the volunteers to leave the area and accused members of the "EcoWatch" of setting the steppe on fire. Meanwhile, according to Andrei Rudomakha, the local authorities did not oppose the action of the ecologists.

The activists have not yet decided whether they will continue their fire prevention expedition, reports Maxim Rebechenko, a member of the "EcoWatch". He has said that they cannot leave the camp, since one of the cars is heavily damaged.

"This is the first attack on members of the 'Greenpeace' in Russia for 25 years of the activities in the country," noted the ecologist.
