Rights defenders report about hunger strike of 108 migrants in Sochi

108 migrants are on hunger strike in the specialized institution for temporary detention of foreigners in the Sochi settlement of Vardane, said Semyon Simonov, the spokesman for the "Southern Human Rights Centre".

According to his story, the centre for migrants in the settlement of Vardane, Lazarevskoe District of Sochi, "had delays with the procedure of foreign migrants' deportation."

Many migrants are ready to leave Russia at their own expense, but they cannot be taken to the airport, said Mr Simonov, adding that as a result 108 migrants went on hunger strike in the specialized detention facility for foreigners, the edition named "Mediazona" has reported today.

According to Simonov, the stuff of the facility "has recently ceased to normally treat migrants." The rights defender has added that "should law enforcers fail to solve these problems peacefully now, the hunger strike may escalate into a riot," the "Echo Moskvy" reports.
