Experts associate interest in Hadji Murad in Dagestan with his image of hero-liberator

Today, people celebrate the day of the memory of Hadji Murad, a participant of the Caucasian War, in his homeland in the Khunzakh District of Dagestan. In the republic, many people treat Hadji Murad with his bright biography as a symbol of struggle against oppression. This was stated by the experts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

Hadji Murad, a participant of the liberation struggle of Caucasian mountaineers, was born in Khunzakh. He was the naib of Imam Shamil during the Caucasian War. However, in 1851, Shamil and his naib disaccorded, and Hadji Murad fled to Chechnya. On May 5, 1852, he was killed.

"In the village, people held a theatrical performance, and after that there was a parade of participants of historical performance of the events of the Caucasian War," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Fatimat, a specialist for administration of affairs of the Khunzakh district administration.

According to Fatimat, a park in honour of Hadji Murad was opened in the village of Khunzakh.

Hadji Murad of Khunzakh became particularly well-known in the Russian culture after the publication of the Leo Tolstoy's novel "Hadji Murad".

According to Rasul Kurtaev, the former head of the village of Kubachi, an organizer of tours around Dagestan, people show good demand for such events in the republic.

The experts have emphasized that the image of Hadji Murad has become a symbol of opposition to oppression.

"The influence of the role of the historical character on the society is, of course, ambiguous, but generally positive. People associate him with the liberation struggle," said Khanzhan Kurbanov, an announcer of the "Kunatskaya" show on the Republican State Broadcasting Company (RSBC) "Dagestan".
